10th Annual Welding WorkshopThe Resource Center held the Tenth Annual Welding Workshop at Shelton State Community College in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, on February 23-24, 2005. Over 62 welders attended, including secondary and postsecondary teachers, apprentice instructors, and industry representatives. The purpose of the workshop was to update instructors with the latest welding techniques. Many who attended indicated this was by far the best of all ten workshops. The welding techniques were presented by Robert Shepherd and Rick Braun from Miller Electric Welding; Dennis Klingman, Brandon Muehlbrandt, Troy Gurkin, Ron Martucci, Shelia Ricks, and Mike Miller from Lincoln Electric Company; and Roger Smith and Dale Breckenridge from AirGas Company. Representing industry apprentice training were Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 372 - Tuscaloosa, Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 760 - Muscle Shoals, Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 52 - Montgomery, Sheet Metal Workers Local 48 - Birmingham, and IBEW Local - Birmingham. Others in attendance were Andy Godley, Alabama Power Company, and Mr. Gregg Collins, Department of Labor. Kenneth Blackwell is the welding instructor at Shelton State Community College. The workshop was co-sponsored by Alabama Power Company, McAbee Construction Company, Local 372 - Tuscaloosa, Local 760 - Muscle Shoals, Local 48 - Birmingham, Local 52 - Montgomery, and the AWS Greater Huntsville Section.
